Power League nominated for New Statesman award

Futurelab’s Power League has been nominated for the New Statesman New Media Awards 2008.

Power League began life as The World Power League – this presented users with the question “Who do you wish had the most power?” and a choice to make between 2 real people with perceived power (George W Bush and Kylie Minogue for example). We soon realised the potential this tool had if we were to allow schools, children, and adults the freedom to make their own leagues. So, we developed the current Power League site. Here you can either take part in 5 ready-made leagues (Climate change, New School, World Power League, Important Inventions, and Most Evil Character), or just start from scratch and create your own league for your pupils, colleagues or friends to take part in.

The beauty of Power League is that from a very simple interface large and complex debate scan be sparked, whether this is when people are making choices on the league (i.e. voting), or when they see the league table they have created as a group.

We’re very happy to be nominated for this award, and hope lots more schools and individuals will start using Power League and realise just how exciting it is. So, go and try it out – you’ll have fun!
