I wondered how long it would be before the stars and stripes began to wake up to the potential of mobile learning.

Well here is an indication which demonstrates the potential of the motivational dimension of sport, the opportunity for learning outside formal education and the critical role of mobile technologies.
Even if you allow for the usual “hype” it is worth reflecting on what could be done in this country with a similar scheme?
