From here to Cyber learning?
The juxtaposition of the publication of Becta’s summary report on progress of the Harnessing Technology Strategy in Education and the keynote at the research Conference provided an interesting benchmark of progress and a route map for the future.
Professor Roy Pea from Stanford University spoke about the need to “foster learning in the networked world” in his opening address to over 300 delegates in Sheffield this morning.
As well as highlighting the direction of technological developments he also drew attention to the 21st Century skills used and needed by young people to prosper socially and economically in the 21st century.
The National Science Foundation have funded a $50m research project entitled “The future of cyber learning” and Professor Pea shared some that work in a vision of education in 2015.
Becta also published their review of progress on the role of technology and its impact on education which identified some progress but also recognised that there are parts of the education system which are hard to reach.

A correction to the coverage – The $50Mil program mentioned in the talk was not the NSF’s but the MacArthur Foundation’s Digital Media and Youth Program (http://tinyurl.com/6ff9pb). Thanks for your interests!
