Learning, context and the role of technology
28th January, 2009Twenty-first century developments in technology, education and design, make it possible for learners to decide how, where and with whom they learn. However current technology rich learning development models need further work if they are to result in applications that enable learners to take full advantage of this situation
This is the belief of Professor Rosemary Luckin from the London Knowledge lab who gave her inaugural lecture at the Institute of Education on the 27th January.
The stimulating and entertaining lecture concluded with the identification of 3 pairs of key issues and interestingly 3 illusions:
- The Knowledge Illusion
- The Technology illusion
- The Institutional illusion

Hello –
Thanks for this interesting and stimulating web resource. My thoughts are from the Work Based Learning perspective. Please visit us for our WBL Wednesdays Webcast at:

Here are some thoughts on:
* The Knowledge Illusion – I think our epistemology will steer our knowledge. This should be the first step in our discussions
* The Technology illusion
Perhaps ‘the medium is the message’ ? (MCluhan)
* The Institutional illusion
Do we have to be driven my assessment?
Can we take a de-schooling (informal learning) society approach? ( Illich )
