The future of instant messaging?

With all the excitement surrounding Google Wave (like it or not), it’s easy to forget that there are other services looking at the future of online communication and collaboration, and alternatives to email and instant messaging.

Yuuguu has recently started to attract attention as a very simple instant messenger style interface that allows people to link up and share data and screen time from a single application. The Java-based software works for PCs, Macs and it is open to participants that are not signed up thanks to a recent update that means only the host has to have the special Yuuguu software on his or her machine while other users can watch and interact using nothing more than Adobe Flash. Yuuguu is free for up to 100 minutes per month for five users in one session.
