Summary
A resource designed to allow children and young adults to quantify and develop their emotional intelligence through game play.
Description
Emo is a collection of mini-games for implementation on a mobile gaming platform or mobile phone which enables children and young adults to develop and assess aspects of their emotional intelligence. These aspects include self awareness, self motivation, self regulation, social awareness and social skills. Borrowing from such recent successes as Dr Kawashima’s Brain TrainingTM, Emo is built upon the idea that through practising specific emotional skills, these skills will become more developed over time. This practice is facilitated through a number of mini-games each of which is designed to develop one aspect of emotional intelligence. An overall assessment is made of the player’s progress in each area over time so that they are aware of their own progression.
How it might be used
This idea is intended as a daily training exercise and would therefore be implemented on a device which is readily available to the user such as a mobile gaming platform or mobile phone. The player would start by creating a personal profile to store their results. Each day, several or all of the mini-games will be played once or more and the results of this recorded by the game. Based on the results of game play, areas of particular focus will be suggested by the game for further development of the player’s emotional intelligence. The mini-games are designed to be quick and pacey so that idle moments can be used to practice one or more skills. The skills developed are life-skills and there is, as such, an interplay between the games and the player’s everyday life. Skills developed by the game are used in everyday situations and further progress made during social interactions is reflected in greater achievement in the games.

I am currently an elementary school principal in Fairbanks, AK USA. Emo sounds like a potentially amazing product and would like to know more about how it has been used in an elementary school. Would you be able to send me more info Emo?
Thank you
